Deploy AGRO with Docker

· 7 min read
note

Updated on 2026-10-08. Open Harness is now AGRO. This post uses the current names and commands.

AGRO publishes a ready-to-run sandbox image at ghcr.io/mifunedev/agro. You can start the image directly with Docker. This path needs no checkout, no local build, and no CLI. Each sandbox keeps its own workspace and its own logins in one home volume.

The default path is the agro CLI. agro sandbox install docker runs the same image, writes a registry entry, and owns the lifecycle. Use the plain docker run path below when you want Docker and nothing else on the host. See Creating a sandbox.

From Fresh Sandbox to First PR: An AGRO Demo Guide

To learn AGRO, watch a clean machine become an agent-ready development environment. The demo installs the sandbox, attaches an editor, and checks the agents. Then the demo connects GitHub, and an agent creates its first issue and pull request.

The full Loom walkthrough shows the full demo. This post turns the demo into a written runbook. The runbook also states the corrections: safe defaults, when not to mount Docker, the contents of .agro/, and how worktrees isolate agent work. The video and the screenshots record the July 2026 demo. The installer and the wizard screens changed after the demo.

Tokenmaxxing is how you build the harness, not how you measure the work

Tokenmaxxing now gets the hangover treatment. A few months ago, the same behavior looked like aggressive AI adoption. Now the press writes the behavior up as runaway cost. Pylon's bill jumped into enterprise pricing. Fortune called tokenmaxxing a bad ROI metric. WSJ covered the companies that treated tokenmaxxing as survival. Satya Nadella admitted that the habit is addictive.

The obvious lesson: tokens are not output. A leaderboard that rewards the person with the most burned model context is a speedometer on the wrong machine. The leaderboard tells you that activity happened. The leaderboard does not tell you whether the spec improved. The leaderboard does not tell you whether the code survived review, or whether the next run got easier.

But the opposite lesson is also wrong. "Tokenmaxxing is dead" becomes nonsense if the phrase means "stop spending frontier tokens." The useful version is narrower. Spend the expensive tokens where the tokens improve the harness, not where the tokens become the scoreboard.
